The Different Types of Migraines

Many people believe that migraines and headaches are the same. They are not actually. Although both causes painful symptoms, migraines are the worse ones because you can have not only head pain but other symptoms too, such as numbness, tingling, sound and light sensitivity, nausea, vomiting, and difficulty speaking. Migraines affect people of all ages and send so many people to the emergency room every year. At ANEW Medical and Rehabilitation in Joliet, our chiropractor understands how migraines can interfere with your life, so we have at our disposal multiple treatment options to relieve this neurological condition. Take a look at the different types of migraines that could affect you.

Types of Migraines

Migraines with aura: With this type of migraine, visual disturbances and other symptoms occur gradually before or during a migraine. Each symptom can last between a few minutes to an hour.

  • Migraines without aura: This migraine is similar to other types of headaches, but the main symptoms are a throbbing pain on one side of the head, sound and light sensitivity, nausea, vomiting, and pain the worsen when conducting physical activity. Migraines without aura can remain anywhere between 4-72 hours.
  • Menstrual migraines: As the name says, menstrual migraines can appear before or during menstruation. These migraines are triggered by changes in hormones.
  • Vestibular migraines: This type causes dizziness, vertigo, and balance difficulties. Vestibular migraines can last between a few minutes to a few days.
  • Migraines without headache: Often called the silent migraine, they can have the same symptoms as migraines with aura, but the headache never shows up.
  • Abdominal migraines: This kind of migraine produces stomach pain instead of a headache.

Testimonials

  • I was very impressed with the chiropractic care I received from Dr. Anderson. I had received chiropractic in the past for my neck pain, but not to this level of care. After only a few sessions, my symptoms began to disappear, especially my neck pain, and I know I would not have been able to perform to my everyday work functions without the treatment I received.

  • I have benefitted tremendously from the chiropractic care I received from Dr. Anderson. Not only has the adjustments helped alleviate my stiffness and aches, but it has helped me have more energy and just feel more balanced over all. A few months ago, I was able to resume a favorite hobby of mine: golf. Due to my previous pain, I never thought that’d be possible.

  • Dr. Anderson has allowed me to be headache free for quite some time now. I used to have daily nagging headaches that often would turn into a migraine leaving me unable to function. For the longest time, I thought I could just keep taking medication to have the pain subside.
