What is Sciatica?

The largest nerve of the body is the sciatic nerve, going from the lower spine the legs. The sciatic nerve helps to supply sensation throughout the legs and feet. Sciatica develops when this nerve becomes damaged or irritated in some way.

Typical Symptoms of Sciatica

You can expect a burning pain to radiate along the lower back, legs, and buttocks. The pain may range from mild to severe, depending on the person and his or her circumstances. Numbness and tingling are also common symptoms; many sciatica patients described a "pins and needles" sensation felt where near the nerve location.

Causes of Sciatica

There are various underlying causes of sciatica, most notably:

  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Lumbar herniated disc
  • Bone spurs
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Lumbar spinal stenosis
  • Sacroiliac joint dysfunction
  • Pregnancy-related nerve compression
  • Muscle strain
  • Lumbar spinal tumor
  • Vertebrae fracture
  • Epidural fibrosis

Treatment for Sciatica

If you are experiencing pain in the lower back and legs, you might have developed sciatica. This pain can significantly lower your quality of life. Instead of living with the pain, you can receive quality chiropractic care for relief from sciatica. Sciatica is just one of many musculoskeletal disorders that we treat.

ANEW Chiropractic offers physical therapy, orthotics, injury rehabilitation, cold laser therapy, and more. For patients with sciatica, our team will come up with a suitable chiropractic treatment that will properly address the problem. A plan of treatment will likely be personalized to meet the specific needs of the client.
